ADAFPDigital Laboratory

Technology that helps democratic organisations do their work

The ADAFP Digital Laboratory is the technology arm of the African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress. It helps member parties and organisations to be visible online, use digital tools well and keep control of their data.

Four programmes, one laboratory

The Laboratory works through four programmes. New programmes will be added as they are ready.

Starting now

Online Presence and IT Assistance

Some member organisations have no website, rely on a personal social media profile, or have no one responsible for IT. This programme fills that gap with practical, low-cost help, starting with what costs least and helps most.

AI Unit

Active

AI tools for research, drafting and translation, used by member organisations under the ADAFP AI Ethics Charter.

Solid FPA

In design

Solid for Political Activities: putting members and organisations in control of their political data, using the Solid open standard.

Digital Security Unit

In preparation

Online security training for members, activists and staff, from protecting accounts and devices to handling sensitive communications.

Online Presence and IT Assistance

In 2026 ADAFP assessed the online presence of its member organisations. Some have strong websites. Others have none, depend on a Facebook profile that search engines cannot see, or pay for a domain that displays nothing. Many have no IT officer. The programme responds in four stages.

  1. Verify the facts

Each member checks and corrects its entry in the ADAFP members directory. This costs nothing and opens contact with every organisation.

  2. Strengthen profile pages

Every member already has a profile page on adafp.org. For an organisation without a website, a complete, multilingual, mobile-friendly profile page is an immediate online presence.

  3. Build simple websites

Organisations with no presence receive a small, fast website with a few good pages, on a neutral domain rather than an ADAFP address.

  4. Own domains for committed members

Members in good standing that still lack a website receive support for a domain, design and hosting, with the domain registered in the organisation's own name.

IT assistance for organisations without an IT officer

Alongside the websites, the Laboratory offers practical help to organisations that have no one responsible for technology.

  • Advice on choosing, securing and renewing domains, email and hosting.
  • Setting up an official organisation page on social media, so the party no longer depends on a leader's personal profile.
  • Putting paid-for domains that display nothing back to work.
  • Guidance and simple routines so someone in the organisation can keep the site up to date.

How we work

We do not over-build
Five good pages that stay current are worth more than a complex system nobody maintains.
Members own what we build
Domains are registered in the organisation's own name, and each organisation controls its content.
Each organisation decides its visibility
Parties choose how prominently they acknowledge ADAFP's support. We do not impose uniform branding.
Secure by design
Simple static websites have no database or login to attack, which matters for organisations that attract hostile attention.
Built for real connections
Pages are light and fast, so they work on mobile networks across the continent.

The Laboratory also supports EMOD, ADAFP's election observation institution, through the work of EMOD's Technology division.

Request assistance

Member organisations can ask for help with their online presence or IT needs. Experts and partners who want to contribute are also welcome.
